What Are the Ways to Remove Stretch Marks After Pregnancy?

By | Stretch Marks

If you’ve recently given birth – or if you’re expecting a baby soon – you’re probably thinking about how you’ll get back to your pre-pregnancy weight, but that’s not all. You’re probably also thinking about the stretch marks you’ve gained along your abdomen as your baby developed inside you.

While stretch marks are a part of most women’s journey to maternity, they do not have to be a constant reminder of your pregnancy after you give birth. In fact, there are several ways that you can get rid of them, and there are even ways to prevent them from forming in the first place.

Before we get into how to remove stretch marks after pregnancy, though, it’s important to first understand what stretch marks are. Purple and red stretch marks are actually subdermal tears in your skin tissue that occur as your skin is stretched beyond its elastins’ ability to yield. White stretch marks are actually scar tissue after those tears have healed.

Thus, red and purple stretch marks can often be treated to prevent the formation of white stretch marks. After they’ve formed, though, white stretch marks must be removed with different procedures.

Treating Early (Red or Purple) Stretch Marks

The key to avoiding scarification with early stretch marks is to feed your skin all of the nutrients and moisture it needs to heal. At Juvia Med Spa, we have several high-quality creams that are full of vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and other nutrients that will help prevent your stretch marks from forming scar tissue. Using these products regularly during your pregnancy can help those early stretch marks fade away and disappear.

Chemical Peels

In some cases, small, shallow white stretch marks will appear, even if you’ve been very careful with treating your red or purple stretch marks. With these, a chemical peel or microdermabrasion will usually take care of the problem. Essentially, because we’re looking at very light scarring, chemical exfoliation is a good way to get rid of that scar tissue. Some patients prefer microdermabrasion, with its fine mist of exfoliating particles, to chemical peels, but either one is a good option in this case.

Laser Scar Removal

For deeper and older stretch marks where the scar tissue is set farther into the skin, laser scar removal is a better option. This will work in one of two ways. You may come in for multiple sessions in which the top layers of skin are stripped away with a laser, leaving behind young, unscarred skin. For especially deep or large scars, laser scar removal works by focusing on the scar tissue itself and breaking it up. Over a period of a few sessions, the scar tissue will be entirely broken up, and your body will reabsorb it. After a few weeks, your stretch marks should have significantly faded, and they will likely disappear entirely in time.

Every patient is different, and so there are several methods available to deal with stretch marks after pregnancy. If you’re looking forward to getting your pre-baby body back and hitting the beach in a bikini next summer – or if you’re just looking forward to seeing smooth, even skin on your belly again – please don’t hesitate to call us at Juvia Med Spa today at 817-427-3700!

Essential Things to Know About Stretch Mark Removal

By | Stretch Marks

Whether you’ve recently had a baby, or you’ve lost a significant amount of weight fairly quickly, you likely have some stretch marks that you’d like to see disappear. You’re definitely not alone – millions of people get stretch marks from weight loss, weight gain, and other factors that stretch the skin too quickly for it to adjust. If you’re interested in stretch mark removal so that you can see your smooth, beautiful skin again, there are a few things that you need to know first.

What Are Stretch Marks?

First, what exactly are stretch marks? You already know that they occur most often due to fluctuations in weight, but why do they show up and why don’t they disappear over time? Essentially, stretch marks are scars. When the skin is stretched too quickly, small tears will occur in the tissue, which will cause red and purple stretch marks to appear. If these stretch marks go untreated, they will eventually turn into white scar tissue.

How Does Stretch Mark Removal Work?

Stretch mark removal works in a couple of different ways. For newer stretch marks, a process of softening the skin and giving it the vitamins and nutrients it needs to retain its elasticity can work very well. This kind of treatment is especially effective when your stretch marks have not yet formed scar tissue as it is designed to heal the torn fibers in your skin while promoting blood flow to the skin and improving elasticity.

If you have older stretch marks that have turned white, you may be a good candidate for skin resurfacing. If the stretch marks are faint and light, microdermabrasion may be a good treatment. In this procedure, a skilled aesthetician will spray a fine mist of tiny abrasive particles over the affected area, causing a buffing effect. Another good option could also be a chemical peel, in which enzymes and vitamins are applied to the skin and will work to eat away dead skin cells and the top layers of scar tissue to leave behind youthful, smooth skin.

Even the most severe stretch marks can be removed, thanks to laser technology. With laser skin resurfacing, we can use a specifically focused laser to burn away the top layers of dead and damaged skin cells. Multiple sessions may be necessary to get the desired effect, but once the procedure is done, you’ll be amazed by the results.

Without proper treatment, stretch marks are permanent, but you do not have to live the rest of your life with them. Whether you’ve just recently gained some reddish or purple stretch marks or you want to get rid of stretch marks that appeared years ago, Juvia Med Spa has a solution for you.
