How Does Botox Help to Prevent Wrinkles?

By | acne, Age Spots, Botox Treatment, Facial Rejuvenation, Stretch Marks, Treatment

Are you someone who dreads the day you look into the mirror and notice your first wrinkle or deep line? Most of us agree, even if we don’t say it aloud. This is why so many people want to know if there is any veracity in the claims that Botox treatment helps to prevent wrinkles. At Juvia Medspa, we offer a wide array of facial rejuvenation treatments for those seeking to turn back the hands of time, but we also encourage patients to ask about wrinkle and line prevention.

So, how can Botox treatment help prevent wrinkles? Without getting too far into the science behind it, Botox is used to dull the nerve impulses to some of the facial muscles. This stops them from contracting as they usually do, and this causes those existing lines and wrinkles to flatten and smooth. This makes them far less distinct, and usually within five days of treatment you see a dramatic reduction in the appearance of existing wrinkles.

Now, the more treatments you receive, the more effective it becomes at fighting the development of new lines and wrinkles. How? You might have already guessed. If Botox is keeping certain muscles a bit slack, and it does so continuously between treatments, it prevents your face from holding strong expressions. The way you constantly raise your eyebrows or hold your mouth in a frown cannot have the same effect on the skin, and this is one way Botox prevents wrinkles.

The other way has to do with the composition of your skin. As we grow older, our skin becomes less dense with collagen. This allows the skin to lose its elasticity. That is precisely why lines form so much faster as we age – your skin just cannot remain as taut as it once was. Botox stops muscles from contracting, and in so doing it stops you from holding your delicate facial skin in a pose that leads to wrinkles and lines.

Keep It Going

As you might see, this means that you probably have to plan on having Botox treatments on a regular basis if you wish its effects to last. We recommend every four to six months as a valid way to rely on the benefits of Botox in the fight against wrinkles and lines. It can take a while for you to see results, but it is generally seen as a truly optimal approach to reducing the signs of age and preventing new signs from appearing.

If you are concerned about specific areas of the face, Botox is already known for its ability to target even some of the most challenging issues. Deep lines in the forehead, between the brows, at the corners of the eyes (also known as crow’s feet) and even frown lines around the mouth can all be addressed with Botox. This is true of existing lines and wrinkles, but it is also available to target such areas before issues develop.

Ultimately, it is going to come down to a good skin care regimen and a variety of treatments to address the signs of aging as well as fighting them. If you want to discover all of the ways to fight signs of aging in your skin, call today to schedule a free consultation. Are Botox Treatments Safe on Wrinkles and Acne?

By | Botox Treatment, Skin, Treatment

It may seem like an odd question, but the truth is that the combination of wrinkles and acne on the same face is actually more common than you may know. As our hormones change with age, or our lifestyles cause premature signs of aging to show up, it’s easy to see how someone might have both these conditions on their face at the same time. So you may be wondering if a person can get Botox to treat their wrinkles when they have acne, and what that treatment might do to the acne.

Botox Make Up

Botox, if you don’t already know, is a prescription injection that is made up of the toxin botulinum type A. This toxin is derived from bacteria, but is totally safe to inject into the body. The way this toxin works is to block enzymes in the nerve endings, causing the nerve endings to lose the ability to understand the signal to move the muscle that was targeted. Basically, the muscle becomes paralyzed because the nerve ending cannot understand the command to move it.

Now, Botox doesn’t entirely block out the nerve ending, resulting in any sort of permanent paralysis. Instead, it just minimizes the unconscious movement of the muscle, ensuring that wrinkles and fine lines do not develop.

Can Botox Be Used If You Have Wrinkles?

As you can see above, Botox does not affect the surface of the skin or your pores – but rather the muscles and the nerve endings within the flesh. This means that it is perfectly safe to use Botox if you have acne. It will not cause any adverse reactions (providing you aren’t allergic), cause you to break out, or anything like that.

Botox is also safe to use when you are using other acne-reduction treatments or products. Again, because it has nothing to do with the surface of your skin, there is no reason why you couldn’t get a peel, use a prescription acne product, or anything of the sort, before or after getting Botox. In fact, chemical peels are a great way to help treat acne that also works to fight wrinkles, assisting the Botox in creating a youthful, smooth appearance. If you have both wrinkles and adult acne, and you are getting Botox to treat the wrinkles, a chemical peel to assist this process and treat the acne is a great idea.

Botox and Acne Scars

If you have struggled with acne your whole adult life, there is a chance you also have a few acne scars or pockmarks on your face. Botox may be able to help you reduce the appearance of these scars while you are treating those fine lines and wrinkles.

Researchers have experimented with combinations of Botox and dermal fillers to smooth out and plump up scarred or pockmarked skin, to help patients see less noticeable scars. When Botox is injected into the area, the muscle contractions that pull on the scar, making it more noticeable, relax, allowing the dermal filler to then smooth out the area.

This is still being researched, but it’s a great example of how Botox is constantly evolving to meet the needs of adults today. If you want to learn more, contact us via our website, or give us a call at 817-427-3700.

Rejuvenate Your Skin with Botox Treatments at Juvia Med Spa

By | Botox Treatment

When you think about Botox injections, you probably picture celebrities with comically frozen faces and a plastic-like sheen over their skin. And while this effect does wear off shortly, Botox should not be thought of as only a muscle paralyzer. People who have used Botox to halt the formation of wrinkles or sagging should know that Botox does far more than just slow the appearance of aging. Botox can actually rejuvenate the skin, turning back time and allowing you to enjoy younger, healthier skin.

It’s All About the Proteins

The reason that Botox treatment can actually allow the skin to “grow younger” is because it promotes the production of two very important proteins – elastin and collagen. These are the components that cause skin to feel firm and tight, but still retain flexibility. As we age, and repeatedly use our facial muscles, we lose the elasticity that allows skin to stay young and smooth. By promoting the regeneration of these proteins, Botox could actually create skin that no longer needs Botox at all – it will be firm and wrinkle-free on its own.

Not All Results Are the Same

Botox injections can indeed rejuvenate the skin. However, not everyone will experience the same jaw-dropping results. If a person has been a heavy smoker all their adult life, has been a habitual tanner for many years, or has spent decades in the sun without any protection from UV rays, it is unlikely that Botox alone will provide the results that we’re describing here. The basic cellular structure of the skin may be too damaged to regenerate the collagen and elastin necessary to improve the skin’s appearance.

The important thing is that it is never too late to start taking care of your skin. If you think you may want to give Botox a try, now or in the future, but you smoke, tan in tanning beds, or spend a lot of time in the sun without protection, now is the time to change your habits to promote better skin health on a cellular level.

Other Skin Rejuvenating Procedures

At Juvia Med Spa, we offer an additional treatment beyond Botox that patients can choose instead. This injection, known as Dysport, is a slightly different ingredient, but it works in the same way that the Botox injection does. In many cases, Dysport is the go-to injection for the wrinkles caused by furrowing your brow line. In fact, many actresses and models get this injection even before the appearance of these worry lines, to help reduce the formation of the lines in the first place.

The reason that Dysport is so often chosen is that it works much faster than Botox, and it has a greater spread. Everyone’s facial structure is different, and the area where their wrinkles or sagging skin may be will be different, too. Dysport often seems to produce more natural looking results, with less of the “frozen face” issue that is so often caused by Botox. Just like Botox, Dysport may also be able to rejuvenate the skin’s natural firming proteins, helping you look younger, naturally.

Which Should I Choose?

It’s hard to decide between Botox and Dysport for many of our patients. Botox has a proven track record that is very well-known; if you’ve considered any kind of injection skin treatment at all, you have heard of Botox. The fact that we now know that it helps rejuvenate skin proteins for naturally healthier skin is a big draw as well.

But Dysport is just as attractive, even if it is not as well-known. Avoiding the less-than-natural appearance that Botox can initially cause is often an important bonus for many patients. And faster results mean that you’ll be able to look your best for any upcoming special event. To help you find the treatment that is best for you, we have many before and after pictures of previous patients who have gotten Dysport and Botox in our Fort Worth location and surrounding areas.

Ready to Look Younger and Feel Better?

As more treatments and scientific breakthroughs in skin care come to light, it’s great to know that a basic Botox injection can actually have such a profound effect on the skin. If you’re ready to look younger, and feel more confident with yourself, we can offer the treatment that is best for your skin. Schedule a consultation to discuss options for sagging skin, wrinkles, or skin that simply doesn’t look as young as it could.

Learn the Main Difference Between Botox and Dysport

By | Botox Treatment

If you’ve been paying attention to beauty and anti-aging trends for the past twenty years or so, you’re probably very familiar with Botox – the most popular muscle relaxing, anti-aging injectable on the market today. However, Botox isn’t the only product available that’s derived from the botulinum A toxin to relax muscles and erase or reduce the appearance of expression lines on your face.

First approved by the FDA in 2009, Dysport has become almost as popular as Botox with patients who want to look and feel younger by getting rid of the fine lines and wrinkles that form around their mouth, eyes, nose, and brow when they make extreme facial expressions.

So what’s the difference? How does Dysport stack up against Botox? Are they basically the same injectable under different names? While both of these products are highly effective, there are a few key differences between the two that patients should be aware of.

How Dysport and Botox Differ

According to some patients, Botox has a longer duration of efficacy than Dysport, but this has not been proven in any clinical studies. The fact is that it may simply work better for some patients than others. It has been shown, however, that Dysport does have a faster onset than Botox, and its effects can be seen starting in two to five days, as opposed to four to seven days for Botox.

Because Dysport has a smaller molecular makeup, it tends to diffuse more than Botox, which can be a pro for some patients and a con for others. If you’re looking for very localized muscle relaxation, then Botox is probably the better choice. If you want more generalized relaxation (e.g., if you’re treating expression lines across the forehead), Dysport could be the better option.

Some physicians maintain that you need to use more Dysport to get the same effects as a smaller dose of Botox, but again this has not been proven and is still very debatable. Other than these minor differences, the two injectables are very similar and have very close results.

The Method of Injection Matters More Than the Injectable

With that in mind, the most important thing to consider when choosing a muscle relaxing injectable like Botox or Dysport is that the method of injection is actually much more important than which brand of injectable you choose. With traditional needles, the process is slower, involves more discomfort, and can cause bruising. With microcannulas (like we use at Juvia Med Spa), diffusion is made easier, and the whole process is more comfortable and more effective. Plus, there’s a much smaller chance of bruising.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox or Dysport?

By | Botox Treatment

If you aren’t entirely happy with what you see when you look in the mirror, you’re probably considering what you can do to look younger and more attractive, right? As expression lines creep in around your mouth, nose, eyes, and brow, you may be wondering if BOTOX is a good choice for you or if there’s a better solution. Let’s take a closer look at BOTOX and Dysport injections and what they treat. With this information, you should have a better idea of whether or not you’re a good candidate for one of these rejuvenating treatments.

BOTOX and Dysport Relax Away Lines and Wrinkles

First of all, BOTOX and Dysport are two brand names for very similar formulas. These injections are made from a pure form of the botulinum A toxin, and when injected into the skin, they relax and partially paralyze the muscles in that area. We should note that BOTOX and Dysport do not damage the muscles of your face. Rather, they target the nerves that signal the brain to move those muscles. Furthermore, the procedure is not permanent. BOTOX and Dysport patients generally come back to see us every three to four months, but this timing varies from patient to patient.

How does this help make you look younger and prevent the formation of future lines and wrinkles? Basically, the skin around your eyes, mouth, and brow is very thin and delicate. Years of smiling, laughing, frowning, and squinting will pull at that skin over and over again, causing it to stretch and wrinkle.

When you take away the ability to make those extreme facial expressions, you immediately relax away some of those lines and wrinkles. And, because you cannot make those expressions, you will not continue to wear those lines and wrinkles into your face, so you’ll actually prevent the formation of new wrinkles.

For many patients, BOTOX or Dysport injections are all that’s needed to begin looking younger and more attractive. Without any surgery or invasive procedures, you can see a significant difference starting immediately after your injections.

Treating Deeper Lines and Wrinkles

Of course, if you’ve developed some deeper lines and wrinkles, they may not completely disappear with a BOTOX or Dysport injection. This doesn’t mean that you simply have to live with those lines and wrinkles, though. Instead, you can opt for one or a combination of several treatments at your favorite medical spa. Dermal injections will fill in those wrinkles, leaving your skin looking smooth and soft. Microdermabrasion, laser skin resurfacing, and other facial treatments can also help smooth your skin and give you a younger, more vibrant complexion, as well.

You Could Be a Candidate

If you’re unhappy with the expression lines and wrinkles you see popping up across your face, you could be a candidate for BOTOX or Dysport injections. Depending on how deep your wrinkles are and where they are located, you may require a single injection or multiple injections. Because we use microcannulas instead of needles, these injections are minimally uncomfortable and come with very little risk of bruising or swelling.

Combining Botox and Dermal Fillers for Better Results

By | Botox Treatment

When it comes to looking and feeling younger, the best treatment is actually usually a combination of treatments. For example, you can lose weight and feel younger by following a medical weight loss program, but you can do it even faster and feel even better if you add some light to moderate exercise and a few i-Lipo treatments.

The same is true for facial rejuvenation treatments. We’ve found that we can give our patients the best and fastest results by combining Botox and dermal filler injections. While both of these treatments are very effective on their own, the two together can not only stop time but turn it back to give you a significantly younger look with suppler, softer skin while erasing your fine lines and wrinkles.

To understand why combining Botox and dermal fillers is a great way to get better results, you’ll first need to understand how each treatment works on its own to rejuvenate your face.

How Botox Works

As you may already know, Botox is made from a pure form of botulinum A toxin, and it works by relaxing and partially paralyzing the muscles around the area of the injection. After Botox injections, the muscles in your face will relax, and you’ll notice existing fine lines and wrinkles starting to fade. You can also use Dysport which is like Botox but works faster.

That’s because you hold tension in your facial muscles, and that tension creates creases and lines. Furthermore, the extreme expressions you make on a daily basis will wrinkle your skin over time. Botox can not only relax away a lot of existing lines, but it can prevent future expression lines from appearing. However, on its own, Botox cannot completely erase deeper lines and wrinkles. That’s where dermal fillers come in.

How Dermal Fillers Work

Dermal fillers work in a couple of different ways to rejuvenate your face and give you a more attractive appearance. They can be used to fill in expression lines and wrinkles, to plump up the cheekbones and fill in dark circles under the eyes, and/or to give you fuller, sexier lips. These may include juvaderm voluma, restalyne, radiesse, belotero, bellafill, and more.  We can also now inject fillers WITHOUT NEEDLES.

When used in combination with Botox, dermal fillers can do two things. They can erase the lines that Botox injections can’t get rid of, and they can help lift sagging skin by filling in the cheekbones, eyelids, brow, and smile lines.

While Botox alone can prevent the appearance of future lines and wrinkles, it can’t repair sagging skin. That sagging skin occurs for two reasons: because your body is not producing as much collagen or as many elastin as it once did, and because as you age your face tends to lose fat and connective skin tissue in the cheeks. This causes the skin to fall and sag, but dermal fillers can plump your cheeks back up and give you the age-defying treatments you’ve been looking for.

Why Use Them Together

Now, some people say, “Why not just use dermal fillers if they can do all that and Botox can’t even completely remove lines and wrinkles?” Well, as we mentioned earlier, Botox is incredibly effective at preventing wrinkles. Combining these two treatments essentially gives you similar results to getting a facelift, but without the need for surgery.
