Considering Laser Hair Removal? What You Should Know First!

Laser hair removal is a really exciting treatment. After all, the idea of never shaving again includes never dealing with a dull razor, never buying shaving cream, and never having to decide whether or not it’s a good idea to moisturize freshly shaven legs again. You’ll save time and money, and you’ll look amazing without even trying. However, you should know a few things about laser hair removal before you take the plunge.

It Works on Almost Everyone

Until just a few years ago, laser hair removal really only worked well on people with paler skin and darker hair. Today, however, unless you have incredibly fine, blond hair and very pale skin, we can focus a laser to specifically target the hairs where you want them removed.

Furthermore, most patients report that the procedure is permanent, and – in most cases – it only takes between two and six sessions to completely remove the hair permanently. Some patients do get a small amount of hair growth a few months or years after their procedures. This is usually so little and so fine that they can take care of it by plucking it out with a pair of tweezers. Some patients do prefer to “finish the job” with one more session to get rid of any re-growth, though.

You Should Stop Shaving or Waxing Before Your Procedure

As effective as laser hair removal is, it’s not very effective at all on newly shaven or waxed hair. You will want to have at least a few millimeters of growth before your session to ensure that the laser can focus on your hairs at the follicle and really start the process of removing them.

It Can Feel a Bit Like a Sun Burn

When preparing for how your laser hair removal procedure will feel, it helps to think about a mild sun burn. Many patients say that it feels much like being lightly snapped with a rubber band over and over again, and there may be some redness and/or swelling afterward. An ice pack and/or some aspirin or Tylenol will be all the pain relief you need, and any irritation fades very quickly. In fact, most people find that they’re able to go right back to their daily activities after a hair removal procedure. You could even get it done on your lunch break from work.

It Works on Any Area of Your Body

Want a permanent solution to a tricky bikini line? Tired of shaving your legs every day or every other day? Embarrassed by the hair on your arms and don’t want to keep getting them waxed over and over again? Or are you just tired of plucking out all of the excess hairs between your eyebrows? Laser hair removal works for all of these areas because it can be used to remove hair on any part of your body. However, because the process is permanent, you’ll want to make sure that you really never want hair in your target area again. So, before you choose to zap your eyebrows into ultra-thin lines, you might want to consider a slightly more conservative target area.
