Botox, Restylane, or Juvederm – Which Is Right for You?

By September 23, 2015Botox Treatment

If you’re tired of seeing fine lines and wrinkles creeping in around your eyes, nose, and mouth, you’ve probably already started the search for the best facial rejuvenation treatment for you. Just a few years ago, the only real treatment for sagging skin and wrinkles was a surgical facelift, but today you have a lot of really great options with so-called “liquid facelift” injectable products. You’ve no doubt heard of a few of these, and friends have no doubt recommended Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, and other injectables…but which one should you choose?

To really understand which of these products will be the best to achieve your goals for your appearance, we highly recommend making an appointment with one of our expert aestheticians for a free consultation and skin analysis. Until then, however, we can help you get a better idea of what each of these products does and why we might recommend them.

Botox – Relax Away Lines and Wrinkles

First of all, Botox is probably the most famous and most recognizable of all injectables. It was the first FDA-approved product of its kind, and it was pretty controversial in its early years. Because Botox is made from a pure formulation of the botulinum A toxin, which causes botulism, people were afraid to use Botox when it first came out. The fact is, though, that Botox is completely safe and causes no lasting damage to facial muscles.

It works by relaxing the muscles in the area surrounding the injection. This prevents you from making extreme facial expressions, and it releases tension from your face. The released tension causes existing lines, wrinkles, and folds to immediately appear diminished as they relax away. The relaxation of the muscles also prevents you from creating more wrinkles and lines in the future by limiting how much you can move those facial features.

In other words, if you’ve just begun to notice the signs of expression lines around your eyes, brow, mouth, and/or nose, you could benefit from Botox injections to erase those existing lines and to prevent new ones from appearing.

Juvederm and Restylane – Fill in Wrinkles and Add Volume to Your Features

Now, both Juvederm and Restylane are filler injections, made up of hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and nutrients. They differ in application, though. For most patients, we will recommend Juvederm to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, and it can be used to plump up your cheeks and add volume to your brow, as well. Juvederm is a great tool in the fight against sagging skin.

Restylane, on the other hand, is not as commonly recommended for filling in lines and wrinkles. Rather, we will recommend it to add volume to your lips and/or cheekbones. Whether you’ve lost volume in your lips over time or you’ve never had the full, pouty, sexy lips that you’ve always dreamed of, Restylane is a great choice. It adds a lot of volume, and the results are very natural and beautiful.

Now, depending on your needs and goals, we may only recommend one of these injectables, but more often than not we will recommend a combination of products to give you the best results possible.
